A Church That Prays Together

The need of prayer can never be overlooked. The desire may not be there, but the need to call out to God for His help is surely a basic and constant need. Jesus Christ our Lord gave us many examples of unceasing prayer. In the midst of a busy day, He was always in constant communion with the Heavenly Father. He prayed in the day, in the evening, early in the morning, and sometimes all through the night. His example tells us that prayer is so important for it provides an access to God from whom we gain strength and grace to cope with the challenges of daily life.

Pray Without Ceasing

In Herald, we start each New Year with a Day of Prayer. We may not be praying 24 hours a day, but this day is set apart to enable believers to start the year with God. We are encouraged to pray as a Church during the worship service, in small groups, at prayer meetings, fellowship or care groups. We need to pray as individuals and as a family. We need to pray for our loved ones, colleagues, friends, leaders of our nation, needs of mission stations, and even acquaintances.

We thank God that in the past year some of us have also tapped on modern technology to pray  for others. Some of us were in a WhatsApp prayer group together with a sister when she was diagnosed with cancer, and then on chemotherapy treatment. Thank God that through this phone application, she could update us on her progress. Many have been encouraged through her sharing.

Thank God for hearing our prayers, and for answering them according to His time. May we continue to set aside time to talk to Him – to praise and thank Him, to confess our sins, to pray for ourselves and the needs of others.
