Evangelical Night

Evangelical Night, previously known as Parent’s Night, is one avenue which we spend time with loved ones and share the gospal of Christ with them. The world celebrates Mother’s Day and Father’s Day every year in May and June respectively. As families, we also celebrate these days. We thank God for our parents and often buy them gifts, or bring them out for a special meal to show that we love and appreciate what they have done for us. But, a greater gift which we can all give to our parents is to ensure that they receive the Gift and Salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of our parents, and other loved ones, may feel uneasy about going to church with us. Thus, Herald has a special event to invite our parents, siblings, friends and colleagues to join us for dinner. We also take the opportunity to share with them some lovely songs of praise and other special items. More importantly, we have one of God’s ministers to share God”s Word with our guests. We believe that God’s Holy Spirit will do a mighty work in th hearts of those who hear the gospel message.

Serving in the Singapore Nepalese Fellowship (SNF)

In 2008, sisters Lim Ee Meng and Vivian Wong responded to the need of Sunday School teachers in the SNF. Since then, they have been teaching the children once a fortnight.

SNF meets every Sunday from 2:30pm to 5:30pm at the premises of Calvary Baptist Church. The Sunday School is from 3:00pm to 5:30pm. The students range from age 3 to 16 years and are divided into 2 classes, namely the Junior and Senior Classes. SNF Sunday School celebrates Easter, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Children’s Day and Christmas and present songs at the worship services and also make gifts to celebrate these special days in the calendar.

The older students also, together with their teachers, organize children’s evangelistic programmes annually. Other activities include outings to Mandai Zoo, Science Centre, Escape Theme Park and other places of interest. In 2011, a two-day Children’s Camp was organized at a Pasir Ris chalet. The children had a blessed time learning about the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus, and bonded with one another in sweet fellowship.

The SNF Sunday School aims to challenge students to be sure of their salvation in Christ. They are encouraged to growin the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus, and to commit their lives to Him. The older students are challenged to lead in Singspiration for the 2 classes and to teach in the Junior class under the mentorship of their teachers. It is our prayer that the Lord will raise these students to be the future teachers of SNF Sunday School. — Deaconess Vivian Wong

Mainland Chinese Fellowship (MCF)

We thank God for enabling Herald to start the MCF in December 2010. In other churches, buses are hired to fetch the mainland Chinese workers from their worksites or hostels. At Herald, we go out to do street evangelism, and invite the workers to join our fellowship meetings on Tuesday evenings. Our focus is on workers either working or staying near Herald.

At our first MCF meeting, we really did not know what to expect. We must confess that we had very little faith – perhaps only one worker would turn up. But, for the first meeting, God gave us six workers who responded to our invitation. Our first fruit was brother Yan who came faithfully every Tuesday night till he returned to China. Brother Yan was baptized on 22 April 2011, and three more were baptized at the Chrstmas Service of 2011.

Thomas and Irene Wee take charge of giving out tracts and inviting the workers along the streets near Herald. God blessed their faithfulness, and gave the increase. The numbers in the MCF grew to an average of 40 workers per week. Those who came invited their colleagues and friends too. The workers enjoy the session of learning and singing new praise choruses. They are divided into 2 or 3 groups for Bible Study: believers, new believers and the seekers. The Bible study teachers include Pr Wong Choon Yew and his wife, MeiYue, and Ee Meng.

In 2012, God blessed us with a pianist from among the workers – brother Zhang Yong. Pr Wong and his wife bade us farewell at the end of April 2012 to serve in the Bible School in Korea. We were certainly short-handed, but God’s work carries on. Other members and friends in Herald help out on special occasions such as the Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival meetings. We thank God for Elder Su Ching Chun from Calvary Jurong B-P Church who comes twice a month to help, and Pastor Bob who takes some sessions too. Some of the workers themselves have come forward to man th PA system, lead in praise and worship, collecting of the dinner boxes and cleaning up.

Truly, we thank God that through this ministry many Chinese worker has an opportunity to serve God in some area of ministry. This also prepares them to be of service to God’s kingdom when they return to China.

We pray that God will continue to bring many salvation in Christ through our faithful service in the MCF. — Lim Ee Meng

Voice Of Grace Radio Sunday Service (FEBA’s outreach)

In 2011, Pastor Bob was invited to preach God’s Word via FM 102.3. We pray that through this radio ministry, God’s Word will continue to encourage Christians to grow, and bring many souls to salvation in Christ.

Care For Community

As followers of Christ we show God’s love by our acts of kindness and goodness towards the community. We follow Christ’s example in caring for the poor, and to stand for justice. Biblical justice means lifting the bonds of oppression, identifying with the cause of the poor and meeting the needs of  the downtrodden.
