Climb the Mountains of God’s Mysteries

I have read writers and heard speakers who try to turn our ignorance about God’s ways into the main ground for our amazement and worship. They usually do so by using the positive word mystery to refer to the depths and heights of God so that we are supposed to be moved with wonder and awe at how much we do not know about God. “I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which He hath bestowed on them according to His mercies, and according to the multitude of His lovingkindnesses. For He said, Surely they are My people, children that will not lie: so He was their Saviour. In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the angel of His presence saved them: in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bare them, and carried them all the days of old.” (Isaiah 63:7-9) Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVI : 49”

The Meaning Of Names

What does your name mean? Parents give names to their children. Often the chosen name would have been specially selected because of the meaning or story behind the name. Sometimes, the name is given to remember a person who means a lot to the parents, and they wish to be reminded of this loved one through the baby’s given name. The name of a baby stays with him or her for the rest of his/her life. Sometimes, the child finds it hard to live up to the given name. Others are inspired to lead a great life in honour of the given name. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVI : 48”

Unique Life’s Journey

The way that Christians respond to God’s calling is to bear the Christ, live the life of a Christian, and to submit to the will that the Lord has apportioned to our lives. There is no doubt, no regrets and no turning back! Submitting to the Lord’s will is not just a choice, but also something that is inevitable, and a necessity. It is not we who have chosen to be Christ’s disciples, but the Lord has chosen us in the first place. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVI : 47”

The Christian way of life

The life of a Christian is not the way of sorrows

Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrows) is related to the Catholic ritual of imitating the sufferings of Christ on His way to the cross. The Way of Sorrows in Jerusalem demonstrates an effort to remember how Jesus had carried the cross through the streets of Jerusalem towards the place of His crucifixion. The route begins with the place where Jesus was scourged, and proceeds on to the three places where Jesus was purported to have fallen under the weight of the cross. Christians and Halloween

Like many other popular commercial activities all over the world, the celebration of Halloween is keeping the cashiers busy, causing the cash machines to bring in more profits for businesses. In America and many other countries (even in China), it has become one of the activities which has helped to rake in billions of dollars every year. The sale of candy and costumes is fast competing with sales of items related to Christmas. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVI : 44”
