The Preaching of the Gospel
The need to share the gospel is as vital as sharing every day news with people.

We get bombarded with lots of news – from the newspapers, television, and the social media. Most of the time the news tends to be negative, heartbreaking and even mind- boggling. In the last few days, the number of fatalities caused by the tsunami, earthquakes, typhoons or floods and other natural disasters seem to be filling up the headlines. Before the end of 2018, we may have broken the record for unending calamities that seem to hit the same countries in our region. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVI : 40”

He Fed 10 Thousand Orphans with Prayer

George Müller built five large orphan houses and cared for 10,024 orphans in his lifetime. When he started in 1834, there were accommodations for 3,600 orphans in all of England, and twice that many children under 8 were in prison. One of the great effects of Müller’s ministry was to inspire others so that, according to biographer A.T. Pierson, “fifty years after Mr. Müller began his work, at least one hundred thousand orphans were cared for in England alone” (George Müller of Bristol, 274). Ministry at Evangel Reformed Seminary and Evangel B-P Church at PJ
(17-23 Sep 2018)

As I would be away for an entire week, I spent some time on Sunday evening with my mother and others in the extended family.

I flew with AirAsia on the 7.35 am flight to KL on Monday morning (17/9). It was a pleasant ride from KLIA to the Seminary in PJ. Thank God that former deacon, Johnny Teoh, (who had served in Brunei B-P Church for ten years) called me a day earlier to say that he would meet me at KLIA. He drove the one-hour journey to the Seminary, and took the route which avoided the daily jam in KL. Thank God also that Rev Dr Lim Yew Cheng was able to take the morning devotion, and part of the introduction to the book of Deuteronomy before I stepped into the classroom. FAITHFUL MAN

“Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?” (Proverbs 20:6)

There is a stark contrast here between ‘most men’ and ‘a faithful man’. The first half of the proverb states that most men proclaim their own goodness. Please note that it does not say that most men are good. It says that whenever most men are given the opportunity to talk, they will talk about their own goodness. It’s all talk but no action. In contrast to that, the latter half of this proverb is not about a person who talks about his own faithfulness. It is about someone who in actual fact is faithful in doing good. A person like that is very hard to find. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVI : 37”

Facing Daily Temptations

As Christians, we face many temptations every day. Temptations draw us away from God, and lead us into doing things which are contrary to what is taught in His Word, the Bible. The more we yield to temptation, the more we feel guilty, and soon we avoid reading God’s Word or want to listen to it. Attending church worship becomes a duty; in fact, to some it has become a burden or a dreadful thing. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVI : 35”

Why Does God Allow Tragedies?

Earlier this month, California experienced the largest forest fire in US history. In Australia, its former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull last week declared the smallest continent as “a land of drought.” Meanwhile, Europe was bracing itself for the hottest-ever temperatures with Spain and Portugal that reached the 48C (118.4F). Nearer to us, Kerala, which has the second largest Christian population in India, received the heaviest rainfall and floods in its 100 years of history.
