Serving The Lord
Christ our Example
Jesus our Saviour and Master came to earth “not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Matt 20:28) Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 42”
The angel said, "Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." Luke 2 : 10
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isa 40:31).
Isaiah the prophet wrote this more than a century ago before the fail of Judah to encourage the people of God when they were still living as exiles in Babylon, their enemy’s land. His words were words of comfort in the midst of God’s chastisement for their infidelity towards Him. They were also words of confidence that assures God’s people that His Word stands in spite of the frailty of man. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 41”

The Parable of the Sower and the Seeds
Matthew 13:1-13
How are you responding to God’s Word?
Jesus is most concerned for those who follow Him. He gave a parable to explain the four responses to His teaching. These responses are related to His audience in His day more than two thousand years ago as well as it is to us today. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 39”
“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Eph 5:16)
The year is closing fast on us. For some people, it has been a fruitful year whereas others might wish the days which had passed could be redeemed to redo, repair or renew. One thing is clear. Time gone will never return like water is to the ground. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 38”
Recently, I read a fascinating leaflet produced by The Christian Institute (UK). It presented “The Ashers Case’ that was won by the Ashers Baking Company (“ABC”). I gained better understanding of important issues from this case. I was especially encouraged by how ABC’s owner – the McArthur family – stood firm on biblical principles despite opposition. In this article I share brief facts of the case and some lessons learnt. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 37”
The term “Christian” was first used by unbelievers in Antioch on the disciples of Jesus Christ (Acts 11:25-26). Some believe that it was intended to be a derisive term. Regardless of the intent of using this term, the fact is that there is an expected distinction between one who is a Christian and one who is not. Christians are reputed to be godly, and one essential mark of godliness is sincerity. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 36”
In the Gospel of John, the Apostle John wrote to both believers of Christ, and unbelievers. He was addressing people who were very skeptical about Jesus, His words and deeds. As we read the twelfth chapter of the Gospel of John, we need to consider three main events which had, or were taking place. As usual, when things happen, there are different reactions or responses from different groups of people. Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 35”
James 3:6 says that the tongue, if used wrongly, is a fire, a world of iniquity’ (Jam 3:6). “The tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full deadly poison” (3:8). With the same tongue we bless God our Father (3:9), and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God. James says that it is not right for the same mouth to give forth blessing as well as cursing. Similarly, we do not expect a fountain to send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter water (Jam 3:11). Continue reading “The Herald Weekly Vol XVII : 34”
Complaining is a Singaporean hobby. It is something we all do. We complain about the hot weather, food, bad service, the transport system, the COEs, the education system, the CPF and the Government. As Christians, we ought to stop complaining but to pray and give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18), looking at circumstances and things in God’s perspective.
